ANOC World Beach Games 2023 Cancelled

The ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 have been officially cancelled, after the Bali 2023 Local Organising Committee notified ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) that it had withdrawn from its commitment to host the 2nd edition of the Games.

AirBadminton was due to make its debut at the ANOC World Beach Games 2023 next month in Bali, 5-15 August 2023.

ANOC’s Announcement of the Cancellation

ANOC made the decision public in an official statement:

“It is with great surprise and extreme disappointment that ANOC has learnt that the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) has withdrawn from its commitment to host the ANOC World Beach Games and the ANOC General Assembly in August 2023.

“With the Games scheduled to take place in one month, the decision at such late notice prevents ANOC from being able to find an alternative host and so there is no option but to cancel this year’s edition of the Games in Bali in August.

“The KOI stated the decision was taken after the budget was not released by the Government of the country and there is now no time to deliver the Games. ANOC is very disappointed by the KOI’s actions which will deny athletes from 100 qualified NOCs from fulfilling their ambitions of competing at the Games.

“ANOC offers its sincere apologies to these NOCs, athletes and the International Federations (IFs) who have been committed partners of the event, and to the fans around the world.”

This announcement by ANOC will be a great disappointment to all those players who participated in the four regional qualification events in the last few months (linked here).

The BWF will follow up directly with Member Associations whose players participated in the recent qualifying events.

We are hopeful of an announcement soon by ANOC on a rescheduled location and dates for the next edition of the ANOC World Beach Games.
