Player Awards

BWF has a system of awards for Para badminton players.

There are four Para badminton player awards each year:

  1. Men’s Para Badminton Player of the Year
  2. Women’s Para Badminton Player of the Year,
  3. Para Badminton Pair of the Year.
  4. Players Player of the Year Award (Para badminton) (clause 2.4)

The awards honour Para badminton talent, world performance, personality and profile of individual players or pairs in the sport across a 12-month period of the Eligibility Period.

The Eligibility Period is 1 December of one year to 30 November of the following year.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the Players’ Player of the Year Award (Para Badminton) – the newest Para badminton players award.

1. What is the Players Player Award?

The Players’ Player of the Year Award (Para badminton) recognises exceptional achievements on court but also the outstanding contributions and significant positive impacts players make off court.

The award is a “player driven” award – this means players vote for their peers.

There are two awards:

  • Para badminton Players Player (men)
  • Para badminton Players Player (women)

2. What is the Eligibility Period for this award? 

1 December of one year to 30 November of the next year.

3. Who is eligible for this award?

The list of eligible Para badminton players to be included in the voting list shall be determined using the criteria below:

  • Top eight (8) highest ranked singles players of each class determined by the BWF World Ranking as of 14 October 2026.
  • Maximum of two (2) players per country/per singles events can be eligible to vote and receive votes. [If there are more than two (2) in the top eight (8), the two (2) highest ranked players from a country will be selected].
  • Players must have competed in at least three (3) BWF World Circuit tournaments between 1 December 2025 to 14 October 2026. [If an event’s top eight (8) does not have a representative from one or more continent, BWF has the right to add one candidate from each of those continent(s) on top of the eight (8). (The additional candidate(s) must have competed in at least three (3) BWF World Circuit tournament between 1 December 2025 and 14 October 2026)]

4. Who can voter for players in this award?

Para badminton players who meet this criteria can vote?

Top 24 highest ranked singles players of each class determined by the BWF World Ranking as of 14 October 2026.

Maximum of three (3) players per country/per singles events can be eligible to vote and receive votes.

[If there are more than three (3) in the top 24, the three (3) highest ranked players from a country will be selected.]

Players must have competed in at least two (2)  BWF World Circuit tournaments between 1 December 2025 to 14 October 2026.

[If an event’s top 24 does not have a representative from one or more continent, BWF has the right to add one candidate from each of those continent(s).  The additional candidate must have competed in at least two (2) BWF World Circuit tournament between 1 December 2025 and 14 October 2026.

5. How do you register to vote?

Voting shall be completed electronically. BWF shall announce the relevant dates for voting, and the closing time and date, and distribute the online voting form.

Eligible Voters:

  • cannot vote for themselves;
  • can only vote once for a player in each category – a) men and b) women.

 

Once the vote is submitted, the vote cannot be changed.

6. What is the criteria to use in voting for a player:

When voting for their peers, players must consider the following:

  • Popular with other players
  • Global fan appeal
  • Positive promotion for badminton
  • On-court behaviour – fair play
  • Contributions beyond the court.

7. When will the Para badminton Players Player of the Year be announced?

The Para badminton Players Player of the Year (men / women) will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in December each year.
