Elections Q&A
1. When are the elections?
Friday 28 November to Sunday 30 November.
Electronic voting – Polls are open for 48 hours, from 12:00 noon (Kuala Lumpur time) Friday to 12:00 noon (Kuala Lumpur time) Sunday.
2. How many positions?
6 members of the Athletes’ Commission will be elected.
3. Who can be Candidates?
To be a candidate, players must be at least 18 years of age on 28 November 2025, in good standing with their Member Association, and not serving a period of ineligibility.
Active Players – those in the top 200 World Ranking List as at 25 July 2025.
Inactive Players – those that have retired from badminton by not
competing in any BWF sanctioned tournaments in the last two years (from Friday 25 July 2025) and/or their Member Association has submitted the BWF Player Retirement Form to the BWF office. To be eligible for nomination for the election, the Inactive Player must have competed in:
- at least one edition of the last two Olympic Games (Paris 2024 / Tokyo 2020) or
- a BWF World Championships (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 or 2023).
4. Who can nominate players for the elections?
Nominations can be made by 1) an “Active Player” [a player cannot nominate themselves], or 2) a BWF Member Association.
Use the nomination form (linked here) to nominate a candidate. The names of those who nominate candidates will be published with the profiles of the candidates.
Deadline for Nominations – midnight KL time, on Friday 26 September 2025.
5. How do you register to vote?
“Eligible players” (see below) who wish to vote must register to vote in the elections (registration is from Friday 3 October to Sunday 23 November 2025).
6. Who can Vote?
Only “eligible players” can vote. They must:
- Be at least 18 years or older on Friday 28 November 2025.
- Be in “good standing” with their Member Association.
- Not be serving a period of ineligibility under the BWF Statutes.
- Be an “Active player” – in the top 200 of the BWF World Ranking of 25 July 2025.
- Have registered to vote by the deadline, Sunday 23 November 2025.
7. When are the elections?
28 – 30 November 2025 – polls are open for 48 hours.
Online voting starts at 12:00 noon KL time on Friday 28 November and ends on Sunday 30 November [12:00 noon KL time].
8. What criteria will be applied to fill the 6 vacant positions?
a) The male player and the female player with the highest number of votes will take the first 2 vacant positions.
b) The next 4 positions shall be filled by the 4 candidates (male or female) with the next highest number of votes.
No two members of the Commission shall come from the same Member Association.
