BWF Leaders Pathway

As part of BWF’s ongoing commitment to capacity building, good governance, and inclusive development, we have again partnered with World Academy of Sport (WAoS) to launch the BWF Leaders Pathway – a long-term, structured initiative designed to identify, develop, and support leaders across all levels of badminton worldwide.

It provides participants with opportunities for international experiences, leadership capability development, and hands-on involvement in major and flagship event and tournament operations.

The first step of this pathway is the Choosing to Lead online programme.

Choosing To Lead

Choosing to Lead is an online course series designed for individuals at the beginning of their leadership journey, including young staff members, volunteers, athletes, coaches, and aspiring leaders within badminton organisations.

The programme introduces foundational leadership concepts and supports participants in developing self-leadership skills and a personal leadership action plan.

Programme Overview

• Format: Online (flexible learning)
• Duration: THREE (3) modules of approximately ONE (1) hour each
• Certification: Certificate of Completion
• Pathway role: Official entry point to the BWF Leaders Pathway
• Programme start: Mid-April 2026

To promote equitable access and global representation, BWF offers each Member Association up to five fully funded places in the Choosing to Lead online programme.

For participants who are self‑funded, Level 1 of the Choosing to Lead programme is offered free of charge, with Levels 2 and 3 available at US$10 each.

We kindly invite you to:

1. Actively promote the Choosing to Lead programme within your network, particularly among young staff, volunteers, athletes, and coaches with leadership potential.
2. Nominate suitable candidates for consideration for the available scholarships in line with your national priorities and development objectives. (You can receive your five free voucher codes by completing this brief online form.)

Pathway Overview

Choosing to Lead represents more than an individual learning opportunity.

It is the foundation of BWF’s global leadership development strategy, with structured progression to the Developing Leaders and Current Leaders programmes.

This unique offer places BWF as the first International Federation to offer such an extensive leadership pathway.
