Thank you to the 272 participants who took part in the Members’ Forum and Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Horsens, Denmark on 24th and 25th April 2026. The three days in Horsens included awards – the recognition of individuals and the BWF membership for their extraordinary work.

  1. Overview BWF AGM 2026 – Horsens, Denmark

A total of 129 Member Associations were represented – 121 Members and 8 Associate Members – see the Attendance List.

During the AGM some important decisions were made and BWF also honoured individuals for excellence, long service and contributions to BWF and the sport.

At the AGM:

  • The 9 proposal on the agenda all passed.
  • Changes to the Laws of Badminton were adopted – the new 3 x 15 scoring system comes into force 4 January 2027.
  • Amendments to the BWF Constitution were approved including an adjustment to the criteria for voting strength.
  • BWF Membership Awards were announced / presented.
  • 4 Administrator Awards were presented.
  • Former President, Poul-Erik Høyer, was inducted into the BWF Hall of Fame (linked here – press release).

  1. Key Decisions of the AGM

The AGM approved all 9 proposals on the agenda (linked here). The decisions of the AGM 2026 were as follows:

  • Item 2 – Minutes – AGM 2023 – Approved the minutes of the last meeting.
  • Item 3.2 – Accounts – Adopted the Audited Financial Statements (31 Dec. 2025).
  • Item 4 – Subscription 2027 – Set the unit of subscription as USD$200/unit (same).
  • Item 5 – Auditors 2026 – Maintained BDO PLT as auditors for 2026.
  • Item 6.1 – Laws of Badminton – Approved the amendments to the Laws of Badminton related to Clause 7 – Scoring System, Clause 8 – Change of Ends and Clause 16 – Continuous Play. The amendments to the Laws of Badminton come into effect Jan 2027.

  • Item 2 – Amendments to Constitution – approved amendments to the BWF Constitution – see the agenda for details. See the attached Agenda for details.

Voting Strength

  • One of the amendments passed was deleting the second criterion in Clause 15.20 of the Constitution which was part of the calculation for voting strength:
1 additional vote More than 10,000 registered players in each of the four years of the Assessment Period.

 

With the amendments approved, BWF Members can have a maximum of 4 votes (not 5 like it was previously).

The changes meant that 34 Members lost a vote – see impact of implementation below. See the additional information on Voting Strength on the BWF website (linked here).

Subscription Calculation

Subscription is calculated in Units (US$200 for 1 unit) and voting strength depends on the number of votes a Member has. The implementation principle is that no Member will pay more for subscriptions than they currently do until the remainder of the Assessment Period .

Other Decisions

  • Item 7.1 – Suspension – approved the continuation of suspension of Badminton Kenya.
  • Item 7.2 – Expulsion – expelled the Fédération Royale Marocaine de The Federation has been informed and the contact details have been removed for the BWF website. BWF now has 203 Members.
  • Item 7.3 – Suspension – approved the continuation of the suspension the National Badminton Federation of Russia (NBFR).

  1. BWF Members’ Forum 2026

The BWF Members’ Forum 2026 explored four main themes, engaged the membership and showcased best practice from our Member Associations and beyond.

Plenary 1Forward Vision for Badminton – This session explored the forward vision for the sport, focusing on the scoring system.

Plenary 2Building the Future of Badminton

The session featured these themes: Global Player Development Ecosystem; The development of the BWF Museum; The ongoing implementation of the Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) framework BWF Digital Strategy.
