BWF GEDI Guidelines launched

As we get ready to celebrate International Women’s Day this Sunday, 8 March, we are excited to share the publication of Equality Matters: How Can We Achieve Gender Equality and Beyond in our Organisations, our newly released Guidelines for Gender Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.

What is GEDI?

Gender Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (GEDI) is the principle that everyone should have access to meaningful opportunities within the badminton community. This extends from the field of play to the boardroom, ensuring that women and other underrepresented groups are involved as players, coaches, and technical officials, as well as in management roles and governance bodies.

Benefits of GEDI

Ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to be included and represented makes our organisations stronger.  It allows us to tap into 100% of our talent pool, and it helps us take wider perspectives into account to best represent all our stakeholders.

Making GEDI happen

Gender Equity, Diversity & Inclusion needs to be an organisation-wide endeavour, at all levels (BWF, Continental Confederations, and Member Associations).

At BWF, GEDI is part of our Strategic Plan, with our capacity-building strategy aiming to “actively promote gender equity, diversity and inclusion across all areas of the badminton community, and in particular, in access to training and education, recruitment for volunteer and staff roles and in leadership positions.”

Specifically, our Strategic Implementation Plan targets of minimum 40% of each gender across activities, from grassroots courses up to BWF Council.

Implementation across badminton is supported by the Gender Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Commission.

“Equality Matters”

Our newly launched Guidelines for Gender Equity, Diversity & Inclusion are designed to help our badminton community recruit and retain diverse members. Whether at BWF, CC, or MA level, these guidelines outline solid steps to ensure that we uphold the principles outlined above, and most importantly, represent our entire community.

We trust you will find these guidelines useful in strengthening or enhancing GEDI within your organisation.
