BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025 Sharjah, UAE | Netherlands to replace Venezuela
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) wishes to inform you of a last-minute change to the participating teams for the BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place this week in Sharjah, UAE, from 11–14 December.

Netherlands Added to World Cup Following Venezuela Withdrawal
Earlier this year, the BWF, in collaboration with the Pan Am Badminton Confederation, successfully hosted the BWF AirBadminton Pan Am Continental Championships 2025 in Lima, Peru, where Brazil and Venezuela secured qualification for the Sharjah finale.
Unfortunately, due to the current political situation in Venezuela, the team is unable to travel to the UAE and has withdrawn from the World Cup. The third-placed team at the BWF AirBadminton Pan Am Continental Championships 2025, El Salvador, is also unable to attend at short notice.
Therefore, the team that finished fourth in the BWF AirBadminton European Continental Championships 2025, the Netherlands, has been invited to participate. This ensures that the AirBadminton World Cup continues to feature representation from all continents, with four teams from Asia, four teams from Europe, two teams from Africa, and one team each from Pan America and Oceania.
The Netherlands accepted the invitation and will join the other 11 teams in Sharjah, replacing Venezuela in the draw. They will compete in both the men’s and women’s triples and the team relay event.
