Sanction imposed by IHP in betting case

This is to inform you of a decision by the Independent Hearing Panel (IHP) in a matter involving betting on badminton.

The Badminton World Federation IHP has imposed a four-year suspension on Denmark’s Joachim Persson.

The IHP found that Mr Persson had breached the BWF Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (linked here) and the Judicial Procedures (linked here) by betting on badminton and by failing to cooperate with the BWF’s investigation.

This is Mr Persson’s second suspension and covers all badminton-related activities. The decision was not appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The reasoned decision can be found on the BWF website.

This latest decision is a timely reminder that betting on badminton in any capacity will not be tolerated, as well as highlighting the importance of reporting such wrongdoing.

The BWF via its Integrity Unit is committed to fighting the threat that betting on badminton can bring, ensuring a safe environment for players to compete.
