Update – Key Decisions of Council – Governance Regulations / Events Regulations

The BWF Council met on Saturday 14 June 2025, following up on meetings that took place after the AGM in Xiamen. This Notice provides an update on the key decisions relevant to the membership:

1. New Associate Member – Badminton Installation Committee of Angola
2. New Committee / Commission Structure
3. BWF Governance Regulations – amendments approved by Council.

6. Seed Withdraw Movement Regulations – World Championships 2025 and beyond
7. New International Classifier – Pinakin Godse (AUS)

1. New Associate Member

Under Clause 11.2 of the BWF Constitution, the Council admitted the Badminton Installation Committee of Angola as an Associate Member of the BWF. Please join us in welcoming our newest Associate Member.

The BWF now has 203 Members, including 13 Associate Members.

2. New BWF Committee / Commission Structure

In Xiamen on 28 April, the Council approved a new Committee and Commission structure which streamlines some aspects of decision-making and brings greater efficiency. The new structure can be downloaded from the corporate website.

At its meeting of 14 June, the Council approved the Chairs, Deputy Chairs and membership of the Committees and Commissions. Some of the Commissions will have external expertise and this will be approved at the next meeting of Council in Paris on 28 and 29 August alongside the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025.

3. BWF Governance Regulations

At its meeting on 14 June 2025, the BWF Council approved amendments to the following governance regulations:

4. Events Related Decisions – Regulations / New Classifier

The following is a summary of regulation updates approved by BWF Council at its meeting on 14 June 2025.

a) Seed Withdrawal Movement Regulations – BWF World Championships

The BWF Council approved changes to BWF Statutes, Section 5.1 (General Competition Regulations) and BWF Statutes, Section 5.2.1 (Major Events Tournament Regulations Table) to allow for seed withdrawal movement regulations at the BWF World Championships, including the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025 in August.

b) New International Classifier

The BWF Council approved a new International Classifier, Pinakin Godse from Australia. There are now 15 BWF International Classifiers.
