Announcement
The BWF Council met on Monday, 5 August 2024 in Paris, France, and approved the following changes to the Laws of Badminton and regulations.
Extension of Experimental Variation to Laws of Badminton, Clause 9.1.5 (Serve)
In May 2023, the BWF Council approved an Experimental Variation to Law 9.1.5 to suspend use of the “spin serve” until the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games to ensure the qualification periods and competitions for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games maintained the same Laws for service.
The Experimental Variation to Law 9.1.5 reads as follows:
“the server shall release the shuttle without adding spin, and the server’s racket shall initially hit the base of the shuttle.”
At its meeting on 5 August 2024, the BWF Council approved the extension of this Experimental Variation until 1 January 2025 to allow more time for BWF to review the “spin serve”, including further stakeholder consultation, before making a decision on its future.
