Updates on BWF Vetting Process

This is to provide you with important updates regarding the Independent Vetting Panel following the approval of amendments to the BWF Constitution and the Vetting Rules at the 2023 BWF AGM in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Independent Vetting Panel now operational

At the 2023 BWF AGM, Sport Resolutions was appointed as the first Independent Appointment Body (IAB). One of the IAB’s roles is to recruit, vet, and appoint members for the Independent Vetting Panel (IVP).

Shortly after its appointment, the IAB conducted a public recruitment and, following considerations of diversity and representation, shortlisted a number of individuals who were vetted under the BWF Vetting Rules.

As a result, three members of the IVP have been appointed. These are: Dr Tanja Haug (Chair), Mr Masahiro Takamatsu (Deputy Chair), and Mr Niels Lindholm. Their full profiles are available on the BWF Website (linked here).

As the quorum for the IVP is of three people, this means that the IVP is now operational.

Please note that two further members will be recommended for appointment at the 2024 BWF AGM.

Vetting Documentation

To provide a framework for the Independent Vetting Panel, a Terms of Reference document was created, which includes all the relevant provisions from the BWF Constitution and the Vetting Rules.

Furthermore, as part of its mandate, the Independent Vetting Panel has set its own Vetting Procedures, as well as a related Vetting Declaration Form.

These documents can be found on the IVP web page (linked here).

Vetting Calendar

Now that the Independent Vetting Panel is in place, it can start vetting those BWF Officials designated in the Vetting Rules.

On the short term, it will vet the nominees for the casual vacancy at the 2024 BWF AGM, as well as the Secretary General and the existing Referral Officer and members of the Independent Hearing Panel.
