Nominees – BWF Player of the Year Awards 2023 / Enhanced Player Awards 2024

The season’s most outstanding athletes will be honoured at the prestigious BWF Player of the Year Awards in Hangzhou, China on 11 December 2023.


 Nominees for BWF Player of the Year Awards 2023

The awards ceremony will be held during the annual HSBC BWF World Tour Finals Gala Dinner.

There are eight award categories, including three for Para badminton.

The nominees were ratified by BWF Council this month and selected based on performances during the 2022/2023 season from 1 November 2022 to 31 October 2023.

The Eddy Choong Most Promising Player will be announced on the evening.

2023 Nominees

The draw for the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2023 will be conducted that same night.

The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals will be played at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium from 13-17 December.

The Top 8 qualifiers from the HSBC Race To Finals rankings will be confirmed following the conclusion of the LI-NING China Masters 2023.


Enhanced Player of the Year Awards Introduced for 2024

At the Council meeting on 11 November 2023, the BWF approved changes to the Awards Regulations which will enhance these annual awards. The regulations will be circulated in the next few days, however key enhancements include the following:

  • Five marquee awards recognising the best player or pair in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

 

Winners will be determined from a combination of world ranking points collected during the eligibility period and votes collected from a panel of experts after each HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 and Super 1000 tournament, as well as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (for the 2024 season), or subsequent BWF World Championships, and the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.

Eligibility period – 1 December to 30 November for each award cycle.

  • Two additional player voted awards introduced with the Players’ Player of the Year (Men) and Players’ Player of the Year (Women), replacing the existing Most Improved Player of the Year Award.
  • The Eddy Choong Most Promising Award has been renamed the Eddy Choong Rising Star Award recognising young talent. This will be selected by the BWF Awards Commission and approved by Council.
