Update – Entry of Players in BWF Sanctioned Tournaments from Kenya and Morocco

After careful consideration, the BWF will allow the participation of players from the suspended Member Associations of Badminton Kenya and the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Badminton, in BWF sanctioned tournaments, under a neutral flag.

The eligibility of players from these two Member Associations will be determined by the BWF through consultation with leadership groups in both countries and established performance eligibility criteria, including World Ranking history and/or national level results, and all players must agree to the requirements in the BWF Player Undertaking.

Kenya: Eligible Kenyan players will be entered via the National Olympic Committee Kenya (NOCK). NOCK will assume the same responsibility as other Members in the entry and team management processes for each BWF sanctioned tournament, including access and use of the online group entry system. NOCK will also be responsible for the payment of entry fees at the time of entry for applicable tournaments (e.g. Grade 3).

Morocco: Eligible Moroccan players will be entered by the BWF based on requests by individual players. For Grade 3 tournaments, the BWF will forward entries to the respective Continental Confederation at the conclusion of the entry deadline. Individual players will be responsible for the payment of entry fees for applicable tournaments, via the BWF.

The player/pair’s World Ranking points would continue to be counted/earned while representing the Member Association AND while under the neutral flag, as well as continue when the player/pair is back representing the Member.

These allowances are considered temporary actions until the suspensions of Badminton Kenya and the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Badminton are lifted or until BWF decides to make changes to the entry procedures.
