World Ranking List of 14 June – Used to Determine the Qualifiers List

As announce earlier this year (link), the BWF will use the BWF Para Badminton World Rankings published on 14th June following the completion of the YONEX Canada Para Badminton International 2022, to determine the Qualifiers List for all 22 events of the BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2022 (PBWC).

BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2022 Qualifiers List

The BWF Para Badminton World Championships Qualifiers List (phase 1) is attached. This can also be downloaded from the Para Badminton Events Calendar (see Week 44 – click on the event title, and download the Qualifiers List (Phase 1) (linked here). All events information will be progressively archived there.

Classification

All players must have a ‘Confirm’ classification status or a ‘Fixed Review Date’ status that is after the end of the Championships in November. There is no classification in Tokyo during the Championships.

Qualifiers List – Green highlighted Names

Member Associations / NPCs / Para Badminton Organisations recognised by the BWF are required to confirm acceptance of players/pairs by 9 August 2022 (11:59 PM Kuala Lumpur time) for Phase 1.

If the BWF does not receive any confirmation of acceptance by the stated deadline, we will consider the slots as being declined. All confirmations of qualification slots are to be sent to [email protected].

Qualifiers List – Yellow highlighted Names

Players/pairs in the Qualifiers List that are highlighted in yellow are technically in a qualification position in Phase 1. However, one or both players has a ‘Review’ or a ‘Fixed Review Date’ classification status that is before or during the Championships. Players with these Status will not be allowed to compete in Tokyo.

BWF will however allow these players to attend classification at the Indonesia Para Badminton International 2022 before confirming their qualification.

Should the classification Status attained at this tournament is ‘Confirmed’ or ‘Fixed Review Date’ that is after the PBWC, those already in a qualification position (for Phase 1) will be eligible to compete in Tokyo. If the status attain is other than the above, BWF will move forward and invite the next eligible highest ranked player/pair in the qualifiers list instead.

In Phase 2 and 3, only those with the appropriate classification status at the time the list is published will be invited.

All confirmations of qualification slots are to be sent to [email protected].

Anti-Doping Education Requirement

Under Clause 17.2 of the BWF Anti-Doping Regulations, the BWF has selected the HULIC DAIHATSU BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2022 as an event where players must complete anti-doping educational activities before they participate in the Championships in Tokyo.

This means that every player participating must complete an anti-doping education course before they arrive in Tokyo for the Championships. This is a mandatory requirement in order to compete at the HULIC DAIHATSU BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2022.

This is similar to the requirement for the BWF World Junior Championships (linked here).

BWF will send out more information this Friday.
