1.  Membership Voting Strength

On 2 December 2020, we communicated the decision of the Council to implement transition measures to calculate Voting Strength for three criteria that were affected by Covid-19 (linked here for the Memo).

In January 2021 the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) endorsed the decision of Council – see the Minutes of the EGM (linked here – see page 9).

Two of the criteria were finalised at the EGM. The last criteria related to “participation in international events” – in particular the Olympic Games in Tokyo:

Because Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was postponed to 2021, there were 11 tournaments in the four-year “assessment period” to 30 September 2020, rather than 12 in the criteria above in the constitution at that time.

The interim measure decided by Council, and endorsed by the EGM in January was:

o   To use the transition criteria of “6 out of 11 events” first.

o   Then after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in August 2021, the original criteria of “7 out of 12 events” could be used to adjust the calculation:

  • Add in one extra event for each Member whose players participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and adjust voting strength where necessary.

This process has been completed, and BWF has published the revised Voting Strength 2020 – 2024 on the website (linked here) and a copy attached for the membership.

Please note that after adding in the Olympic Games participation, there is no change to the Voting Strength of any Member Association.

Please see the column in pink titled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games – linked here.

2.  Schedule A 2021

This is a friendly reminder that the Schedule A for 2021 is due on 30 September. Thank you to the 60 Members who have completed this so far. There are two weeks to go before the deadline. The form can be downloaded from the BWF website (linked here).

3.  National Holiday / Office Closure

Please be advised that it is a national holiday in Malaysia tomorrow, to mark Malaysia Day. The BWF office will be closed tomorrow.
