Tournament Update – Calendar 2021

Further to our update of 9 August (linked here), BWF wishes to advise the following adjustments to the calendar for a number of HSBC BWF World Tour Tournaments. These changes are due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the host countries. The changes to the calendar below have been made in consultation with the relevant Hosts.

BWF continues to be committed to delivering the remainder of the 2021 calendar as planned and together with the hosts, providing players with a safe and structured platform to earn important world ranking points and prize money in the coming months.

The following tournaments are cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions on entry and movement. These complications left local organisers no choice but to cancel the tournaments.

  • Korea Open 2021 – Yeosu City – 31 August – 5 September
  • Macau Open 2021 – Macau – 02 – 07 November
  • Korea Masters 2021 – previously postponed, however now cancelled

Postponement / Upgrade & New Title for SaarLorLux Open 2021

As we announced on the 28 June, unfortunately, it is not feasible to conduct any tournaments in China this year. Therefore, the BWF World Junior Championships, which was due to be hosted in China in October 2021, has been postponed. No replacement dates or locations have been set.

The SaarLorLux Open 2021 (02 – 07 November), in Saarbrücken Germany has been upgraded to an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 category tournament and will be played under the new name of Hylo Open 2021. This tournament will round out the European Leg of the HSBC BWF World Tour following stops in Denmark and France.

Postponed Tournaments – Decisions Pending

A few other remaining tournaments are still categorised as postponed. Final decisions on those tournaments will come at a later date:

  • PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2021 (Super 500)
  • CELCOM AXIATA Malaysia Open 2021 (Super 750)
