Tokyo 2020 – Integrity Awareness – Get Ready – Athletes, Coaches, Team Managers

To help athletes, coaches and team managers get ready for Tokyo 2020 Olympic / Paralympic, online integrity awareness learning material has been put online.

These short online sessions give important information and check your understanding. There are 2 areas:

1)   Anti-doping rules, testing, and your role at the Games (45 minutes)

2)   Anti-competition manipulation rules, betting and monitoring (15 minutes)

 

Your NOC / NPC may have contacted you if have qualified athletes going to Tokyo. We strongly recommend that all athletes, coaches and team managers to spend 1 hour to go through the online information to get ready for Tokyo.

Please make sure you forward this to your Tokyo 2020 coaches / team manager.


1.  WADA Online Material for Tokyo 2020

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has an online anti-doping educational courses and these can be accessed through the ADEL portal https://adel.wada-ama.org/

ADEL for Tokyo 2020 Olympics – This e-Learning course is designed for athletes and coaches participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

By the end of this course, athletes, coaches and team managers will be confident in participating at Tokyo 2020 in line with the anti-doping rules.

The online course has 6 parts and it takes about 45 minutes to complete.

This is available in 13 languages – Albanian, Azerbaijani, Bulgarian, Croatian, English, French, German, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Ukrainian.


ADEL for Tokyo 2020 Paralympics – This e-Learning course is designed for athletes and coaches participating in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

 

 

By the end of this course, athletes, coaches and team managers will be confident in participating at Tokyo 2020 in line with the anti-doping rules.

 


2.  How to Access ADEL

  1. Access the WADA ADEL platform here: https://adel.wada-ama.org/en
  2. Each individual must create a new account (or you already have an account – enter your login details). Make sure that the fields (i.e. sport, country) are properly filled in so that you appear in the reporting.
  3. Locate the ADEL Academy and click on the ADEL for Tokyo 2020 Olympics / Paralympics
  4. Check out the ADEL Academy – there are many other courses to enroll in later.

 


3.  Athlete 365 – Preventing Competition Manipulation

The Preventing Competition Manipulation e-learning module is now available on the Athlete365 website in English (and other languages, such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin & Russian).

Access to the module is available on any device including smartphones, tablets or laptops.

Upon successful completion of the e-learning module, a certificate will be issued.

This will take about 15 minutes to do.

 


4.  How to Access the Preventing Competition Manipulation Module

1.    Access to the Preventing Competition Manipulation e-learning module can be found via this link https://athlete365.org/maketherightdecision-bwf    

2.    Create a new account or enter your login credentials. Please make sure that the fields (i.e. sport, country) are properly filled in so that you appear in the reporting.

3.    Once logged in, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Start Course”.

4.    Complete the e-learning module.

5.    Obtain your course certificate.


5.  IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

In a letter on 6 April 2021 (linked here), the IOC announced that the Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020 (as of March 2021) are now available (linked here). Please review carefully – a few key points are:

  • The International Testing Agency (ITA) is responsible for testing, therapeutic use exemptions, sample collection at the Games and results management.
  • Whereabouts Information – see Article 5.6 – athletes are responsible for providing sufficient details so doping control officers know where you are – sufficient information means – block and room number in the Village, place of training, times of training, competition times up to and including the date of the Closing Ceremony.
  • Doping control / sample collection – will take place for the period of the Olympic Games (the day the Athletes’ Village opens to the day of the Closing Ceremony (from 13 July to 8 August 2021 inclusive).
  • Testing – Athletes can be tested at any time, in any location at the Games.
  • Therapeutic Use Exemptions (for medications)- TUE’s should be applied through ADAMS.
  • CAS-ADD – At the Games, the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport will be on site in Tokyo to make decisions on any Anti-Doping Rule violations.

6. Rules of the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions

The IOC Code of Ethics  prohibits all accredited persons at the Olympic Games from betting on Olympic events. Furthermore, all participants have an obligation to report any approach or suspicion of manipulation.

See articles 7 to 10 of the IOC Code of Ethics:

  • Article 7 – The Olympic parties shall commit to combat all forms of cheating and shall continue to undertake all the necessary measures to ensure the integrity of sports competitions.
  • Article 8 – The Olympic parties must respect the provisions of the World Anti-Doping Code and of the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions.
  • Article 9 – All forms of participation in, or support for betting related to the Olympic Games, and all forms of promotion of betting related to the Olympic Games are prohibited.
  • Article 10 – Participants in the Olympic Games must not, by any manner whatsoever, manipulate the course or result of a competition, or any part thereof, in a manner contrary to sporting ethics, infringe the principle of fair play or show unsporting conduct.
