Return to International Competitions – A Post Covid-19 Research Project

The BWF is inviting your athletes to participate in a research study that aims to assess the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on musculoskeletal health in elite adult badminton athletes.

Athletes aged 18 years and above playing international tournaments are invited to participate.

Please share this information and the link below with your athletes and relevant groups.

Our ultimate goal is to support the long-term health and fitness of elite badminton athletes.

Data Gathering from Athletes

Athletes who wish to participate in this project will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that will ask a series of questions on 1) their background, 2) training behaviour and activity level during the lockdown, and 3) any significant injuries they may have suffered during their careers.

The outcomes of this study will be used to guide and direct future athlete health and injury prevention initiatives.  This research could help Members, athletes, coaches and the BWF in future training and tournament planning and with a goal of helping to reduce injury risk.

Participation in the study is voluntary, and names and identity will remain anonymous. All data will be encrypted and stored in a secure database.

Athlete Online Questionnaire – Link

The survey will take between 5-20 minutes to complete. Please ask your athletes to go to the link to complete the questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GP22RX8

This survey link will be active for one month, by which time we hope to have enough responses to be able to make associations for the wider BWF athlete group.

The project is approved by the ethical committee of Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai (HNH/IEC/2020/OCS/RHSM/42).  The survey has been designed with Dr Niels Christian Kaldau’s assistance – former Danish national athlete and sports orthopaedic surgeon).

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Christopher Pedra (project leader) at [email protected] or Tracy Tan, BWF Development Officer at [email protected]

Thank you for your participation.
