Player Commitment Regulations Suspended for the Adjusted HSBC BWF World Tour

Further to the BWF Memo of Wednesday 26 August 2020 (linked here), outlining the new adjusted HSBC BWF World Tour tournament programme BWF wish to clarify the mandatory Player Commitment Regulations (BWF Statutes – Chapter 5 – Technical Regulations – Section 5.3.6 (linked here) that will apply for the adjusted Tour calendar.

With the restricted number of tournaments available on the Tour, BWF will suspend the Player Commitment Regulations for 2020 and will not impose penalties on the 2020 top 15 (Singles) & top 10 (Doubles) committed players.

The relaunch of international badminton, with strong safety protocols for all participants, is considered crucial to the future of the sport if it is to avoid irreversible long-term damage.

BWF and the hosts will put in place a coherent system of measures to keep players as safe as possible so that they can compete and win prize money and world ranking points.

We expect that member associations and players will respond positively to the actions taken to bring back international badminton and the sport we love to millions of global fans. Therefore, it is expected that the top players will enter and play in the new adjusted HSBC BWF World Tour tournaments 2020.
