A Message to Players | BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund

Hello to all our players and player entourage.

Thank you for your patience in these difficult times.

The team has been working very closely with all relevant stakeholders to plan and execute a return to badminton.

It is our role to help preserve the livelihoods of all participants within the badminton community.

Soon, we will be able to share with you the necessary revisions to different regulations due to the impact of the COVID-19 situation.

It has not been a simple process and we share your frustrations around the uncertainty we are all experiencing.

The fact that players have not been able to train for a period of time, and now for a number of months have not been able to engage in competitions, is disturbing.

So, trust us that we are doing our very best so that we can return to badminton as soon as possible, in a safe and comfortable manner.

Despite the challenging environment we do, however, encourage all of you to keep your spirits high and get ready for a strong return to badminton on the international sporting scene.

We all need to stand together and work in solidarity to ensure the fast return of our sport so that you as players can again inspire the hundreds of millions of badminton fans around the world.

With this we have also prepared and will publish in due course new procedures for hosting international tournaments in line with advice from the World Health Organization (WHO), and relevant health authorities.

We can ensure you that any badminton activity will not go ahead unless it complies to the health and safety guidelines that we put in place.

We also acknowledge that many international movement and entry restrictions are still in place. We are currently working with host organisers and local authorities to map out and plan safe travel and entry routes for players and their entourage.

Finally, I wish you continued safety in these uncertain times, and hope that you are fit, healthy and back in training ahead of badminton’s planned return.
