Singapore Badminton Open 2020 Going Ahead as Planned

Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) confirmed today that the Singapore Badminton Open is going ahead as planned.

The Singapore Badminton Open 2020 will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 7 to 12 April 2020.

The organisers of Singapore Badminton Open 2020 have been in close communication with the BWF and have consistently provided event updates. The tournament is one of the last stops in the qualifying window for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

All stakeholders and local health authorities will continue to work closely together to address the challenges of COVID-19.

‘To ensure the safety of players, spectators and event personnel amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the Singapore Badminton Open organising team will be implementing enhanced precautionary measures in the Singapore Indoor Stadium to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

These include:

  • Temperature checks for everyone before they enter the Singapore Indoor Stadium;
  • Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfection of the venue space and common areas;
  • The Singapore Badminton Open press conference will be a closed-door event.

 

Spectators with a temperature of 38°C will not be allowed to enter the stadium. Spectators who are feeling unwell are advised to seek medical attention and avoid attending the event. We will continue to monitor the situation and will introduce more precautionary measures if necessary.

With regards to the global COVID-19 outbreak, Mr Robert Lim, Organising Chairman of the Singapore
Badminton Open 2020 said, “We will be going ahead with the Singapore Badminton Open in April, with all preparations on track as planned. As we continue to monitor the coronavirus situation, we are also paying close attention to the official announcements from relevant authorities and will cooperate with them based on up-to-date government advice.

With the well-being of our players, officials, volunteers and fans being our top priority, we will continue to take precautions and implement measures to minimize the potential risk from the virus, so as to present a safe, yet exciting edition of the Singapore Badminton Open.
