Revised Dates – Application to Host
The revised deadlines for the applications and awarding of the BWF World Superseries, Grand Prix Gold Series and Grand Prix (2018 – 2021) and BWF Major Events in 2018 and 2019 were announced today by BWF in a memo to the membership.
The deadlines are:
- Bid / Applications Open – 30 September 2016
- Bid / Applications Close – 16 January 2017 (midnight KL time)
- Council Decision – March 2017 (the date in March has yet to be confirmed).
These revised dates are later than BWF had expected, however the additional time is needed to finalise the contract for the media and sponsorship rights that go with these top tier events, before the “Request for Proposal” documents are sent out to potential hosts for World Superseries / Grand Prix Gold / Grand Prix and BWF Major Events.

BWF World Superseries / Grand Prix Gold / Grand Prix
Following the BWF Memo to the membership of 27 April 2016 calling for “Expressions of Interest” in hosting tournaments in the next cycle of the BWF World Superseries, Grand Prix Gold Series and Grand Prix (2018 to 2021), the BWF received a considerable number of expressions of interest by the deadline of Friday 13 May – and this was useful in reporting to the Council in Kunshan.
As per the above revised deadlines, the formal application process will start on 30 September 2016, and more information will be sent out in late-September on what kind of information is required in the application to host submission.
