Badminton at Commonwealth Games 2030

We would like to update you on recent developments regarding the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Amdavad, India, and BWF’s ongoing efforts to secure badminton’s inclusion in the final sports programme.

Earlier today, Commonwealth Sport announced the initial list of sports for the Games, which does not currently include badminton. While this is not the outcome we had hoped for at this stage, we want to assure you that BWF has been actively engaged in lobbying and constructive dialogue with Commonwealth Sport over the past several months.

For context, BWF has 51 Commonwealth Member Associations across our five Continental Confederations.

Our Actions To Date

  • Formal Submissions: We have presented detailed proposals to Commonwealth Sport outlining badminton’s historical significance, global reach, and alignment with the Games’ values.
  • Data-Driven Advocacy: Comprehensive data on participation, fan engagement, and medal opportunities has been shared to demonstrate badminton’s strong presence across Commonwealth nations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: BWF has worked closely with Member Associations and key influencers to reinforce the demand for badminton and Para badminton in the programme.
  • Strategic Positioning: We have highlighted India’s unique position as one of the world’s most engaged badminton markets.

Next Steps

The final programme of 15–17 sports will be confirmed in early 2026. BWF will continue its proactive engagement with Commonwealth Sport to ensure badminton’s rightful place in the Games. We remain confident that our collaborative approach and strong case will deliver a positive outcome.
