Participation Regulations – Update
The following is an update regarding the Participation Regulations, which allow players from Russia to enter BWF-sanctioned tournaments as “independent neutral athletes” provided they respect several conditions.
On 12 May 2025, the Eligibility Panel, created under these Regulations, approved the participation of two players with a Russian passport: Rodion Alimov and Maksim Ogloblin.
This means that the Eligibility Panel was satisfied, following a thorough due diligence process, that these two players had not engaged in any actions that were inconsistent with the BWF’s and the Olympic Movement’s peace mission.
These two players must now comply with BWF anti-doping requirements and should be eligible to enter tournaments with a starting date of 11/08/2025. This means that these players can enter tournaments with an entry deadline of 15/07/2025.
The players will enter tournaments directly through BWF and measures will be in place to ensure entry fees are paid prior to their final acceptance in a tournament.
Finally, please note that under Clause 8 of the Participation Regulations, Members can apply to the BWF to be granted an exemption from the requirement to include eligible players from Russia in their tournaments.
