French Open 2024 Played at Olympic Games Badminton Venue – Porte de la Chapelle Arena

Please find enclosed some changes to the tournament calendar for March 2024 and an adjustment to the list of eligible tournaments for the Paris 2024 qualifying period.

The BWF announces today that the French Open 2024 will now be played in Week 10, (5 -10 March 2024) at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in Paris – the Badminton competition venue for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This change will mean that the tournament can be used to trial the badminton venue and facilities as part of the Paris 2024 testing programme.

The Porte de la Chapelle Arena will not be ready in time for testing at the French Open 2023 in October this year. Construction will be completed in January 2024.

Opportunity to Become Familiar with the Olympic Games Venue

BWF, in consultation with French Badminton Federation (FFBad) and Paris 2024 organising committee, agreed to move the French Open 2024 to a new slot in March, to ensure players and organisers had the opportunity to become familiar with the venue before the Games.

This change means the Orléans Masters 2024 is moved back a week to 12 – 17 March 2024.

It also means that the All England Open 2024 (HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000) and Orléans Masters 2024 (HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300) will both be held in Week 11, with the Ruichang China Masters 2024 (BWF Tour Super 100) moving to Week 12 to cater for the additional tournament.

Ranking Points to Count – Race to Paris Rankings

Ranking points from the YONEX French Open 2023, French Open 2024, and Orléans Masters 2024 will all count towards the Race to Paris Rankings, which closes on 28 April 2024.

Change of Venue –

FFBad has also decided to move the YONEX French Open 2023 away from Paris and to the northwest city of Rennes due to a clash with the Rugby World Cup 2023. Details on the new venue for the YONEX French Open 2023 will be released shortly.
