BWF Unveils New Competition Structure and Enhancements

adminton is entering its most ambitious transformation yet. From 2027 onwards, the sport will feature a revamped BWF World Tour, enhanced commercial strategies, and upgraded production standards — all underpinned by our extended partnership with Infront until 2034. These changes aim to elevate badminton’s global profile, deliver greater value to stakeholders, and create an immersive experience for players and fans.

BWF and Infront will unveil the future vision in a public announcement later today Monday 9 February 2026 at 4pm Kuala Lumpur time (GMT/UTC+8). At the same time, we will also reveal the Tournament Hosts for the revamped BWF World Tour 2027-2030.

Highlights of New Cycle:

  • Robust competition structure with more prize money for players.
  • More broadcast hours to reach more markets.
  • More competition days and new formats with improved scheduling for players.
  • More countries taking part in BWF Major Championships.

EMBARGOED PRESS RELEASE – Badminton’s Next Boom

BWF World Tour

At the heart of this evolution is a revamped BWF World Tour, featuring 36 tournaments within a six-tier structure, with five Super 1000 tournaments and all Super 100 tournaments now fully integrated into the tour for the first time.

Super 1000 innovations:

  • Group play followed by knockout rounds for singles (48 entries) and 32-draw knockout draw for doubles.
  • 11-day format across two weekends.

All 219 matches produced for broadcast across a two-court setup using LED A-board technology.

Prize money will increase across all tiers:

      • Super 1000: $2,000,000 (up from $1,450,000 in 2026) 
      • Super 750: $1,100,000 (up from $950,000) 
      • Super 500: $560,000 (up from $500,000) 
      • Super 300: $290,000 (up from $250,000) 
      • Super 100: $140,000 (up from $120,000)

 BWF Major Championships

The BWF Major Championships will also undergo significant enhancements to deliver more drama, more matches, and greater global representation.

      • BWF World Championships (from 2027): Group-stage format plus knockout rounds for singles and doubles.
      • BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals (from 2028): Expanded to 24 teams.
      • BWF Sudirman Cup Finals (from 2027): Expanded to 24 teams.

All Major Championships will feature LED A-boards on a two-court setup and enhanced broadcast coverage with every match produced live across all three competitions over 12 days.

Innovation

Broadcast upgrades:

      • TV-produced matches will more than double from 1,410 to approximately 3,000 annually.
      • 100 per cent live coverage for all Super 1000 tournaments; significant increases across other tiers.

Enhanced production standards:

      • LED A-board technology, improved lighting, and virtual overlays.
      • Festival-style activations and upgraded player facilities.

New OTT platform to expand global reach and fan access.
