Request for Proposal (RFP) to Host BWF Major Championships 2027 – 2030

The BWF is inviting BWF Members to submit an Expression of Interest with the intention to submit one or more applications to host BWF Major Championships in the period 2027 to 2030.

The following BWF Major Championships are open for application:

• BWF World Championships (2027, 2029, and 2030 – 3 Championships)
• BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals (2028 and 2030 – 2 Championships)
• BWF Sudirman Cup Finals (2027 and 2029 – 2 Championships)
• BWF World Junior Championships (2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 – 4 Championships)
• BWF World Senior Championships – including potential festival concept (2027 and 2029 – 2 Championships).
• BWF Para badminton World Championships (2028 – 1 Championships)

Consultation Process

BWF Members submitting an Expression of Interest to host one or more of the above Championships will be invited to enter into a dialogue with BWF (‘BWF Major Championships Consultation Process’) around their interest.

The BWF Major Championships Consultation Process has the objective of:

• Ensure that the terms and financial requirements to host the BWF Major Championships are clear to all parties.
• Discuss the possibility for a BWF Member to host a ‘package’ of BWF Major Championships during the period 2027 to 2030.
• Discuss the allocation of commercial rights awarded to the host.
• Potentially conduct any necessary site visits to venues.

This process will result in the submission of an application to host one or more BWF Major Championships.

BWF will also actively approach various Members who have previously hosted BWF Major Championships and new potential markets, inviting them to participate in the BWF Major Championships Consultation Process.

Members not submitting an Expression of Interest can, however, also submit bids by the deadline to submit applications as per the dates outlined in the bidding timetable section.

The relevant RFP documents and Expression of Interest forms are available here.  The RFP documents describe the rights and obligations related to the hosting of the BWF Major Championships, including the commercial structures.

To submit an Expression of Interest, please complete the attached Expression of Interest form before the deadlines outlined in the timetable section.

Members submitting an Expression of Interest before the deadline will be invited to begin the BWF Major Championships Consultation Process before the application submission deadline.

Members submitting an Expression of Interest will be sent generic contract material related to the relevant BWF Major Championships before any dialogue.

Bidding Timetable for 2027 and 2028-2030

There will be two different timelines, with bids for 2027 must be submitted earlier than bids for 2028-2030.

Bidding Documents and Form

The BWF welcomes bid documents in electronic format only (e.g., PDF, Word or PowerPoint presentations).

As a minimum requirement, any Member Association wishing to host a BWF Major Championship must complete the official bidding form.

The bidding form is provided with this document in Word format.
