BWF Announces a Revamped 2020 Tournament Calendar

The BWF released today a revamped 2020 Tournament Calendar following suspensions of tournaments in the last few months due to the Covid-19 pandemic (media release linked here).

BWF has been working closely with Member Associations and Continental Confederations to reschedule as many tournaments as possible. This has not been an easy task, and BWF wishes to thank all those involved in finding solutions to reschedule international competitions.

Please check out the link below :

Please continue to monitor the BWF Corporate website for the Calendar of Tournaments (linked here).

In announcing the revamped calendar 2020, Thomas Lund, Secretary General stated that whilst it was difficult to predict when international movement and entry restrictions would be lifted by individual countries and territories, BWF would not resume competition unless it is absolutely clear that it is safe to do so.

The health, safety and wellbeing of all athletes, their entourage, officials and the greater badminton community continues to be our No.1 priority.

Other Competitions Related Decisions

BWF is in the process of considering a number of competition related matters related to the suspension of competitions. These include:

  1. The exact model for the unfreezing of the world rankings.
  2. Mandatory player regulations and how this is impacted by the revamped tournament schedule.
  3. Any necessary changes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games qualification system.

BWF will make announcements on these in the coming weeks once decisions are finalised.
