BWF AGM 2024 Planning Deadline for Proposals / Nominations

We are pleased to inform you that the BWF Annual General Meeting 2024 will be held in Chengdu, China, on Saturday 27 April 2024 with the Members’ Forum being held on Friday 26 April 2024.

For Members who wish to see top level badminton while in Chengdu, the TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2024 will be taking place from 28 April to 5 May 2024.

Deadline for Proposals and Nominations for Elections

As per Clause 15.1 of the Constitution, the BWF gives notice that the exact closing date for proposals and nominations for the AGM 2024 is midnight KL time on Friday 5 January 2024.

Please note there will be an election at the AGM 2024 to fill a casual vacancy on the BWF Council (see our Notice of 1 September 2023 – linked here). Because former Council member Emma Mason was a European woman on Council, to satisfy the Geographical and Gender Representation Requirements of Clauses 2 and 3 of Appendix I of the Constitution, nominees for election can only be women from Europe.

Any Member in Good Standing can nominate / second nominations for the elections. See information below on the nomination process.

Key Dates towards the AGM 2024

Key dates to remember towards the AGM 2024 are as follows:

 Friday 5 January 2024 – Deadline for proposals (16 weeks out)

  • Tuesday 31 January 2024 – Deadline for BWF subscriptions 2024
  • Friday 8 March 2024 – Notice of the AGM / agenda / annual report (7 weeks out)
  • Friday 22 March 2024 – Deadline for amendments to proposals (5 weeks out)
  • Friday 26 April 2024 – Members’ Forum 2024
  • Saturday 27 April 2024 – BWF AGM

Nominations for Elections to Fill the Casual Vacancy

Only Members in Good Standing can nominate / second nominees for election to Council (BWF Constitution, Clauses 7.25, 18.3, 18.4).

For each nomination, a Member must submit Forms A and B to the BWF – together with a Seconding Letter from a different Member Association. Form C, which will be made available in early December 2023, needs to be sent directly to the Vetting Officer responsible for the administration of the Vetting Process. All these documents must be submitted no later than midnight on 5 January 2024.

Please send Forms A and B together with a Seconding Letter, to Thomas Lund, Secretary General ([email protected]), and copy in Patricia Wong ([email protected]).

Form C will need to be sent directly to the Vetting Officer who is responsible for the administration of the Vetting Process. The address will be shared when the form is made available.

Vetting of Nominees

As per the BWF Constitution Appendix II – Vetting Rules, each nominee is vetted by the Independent Vetting Panel in order to determine the nominee’s Eligibility, against the criteria as described in clause 2 (Eligibility). Please refer to Appendix II for the vetting rules and the vetting processes for nominees.
