BWF Announces the Para Badminton World Championships Hosts for 2021 & 2023

Following an extensive bid process for the 2021 and 2023 editions of the BWF Para Badminton World Championships, the BWF is pleased to announce that Japan will host the 2021 edition and Thailand the 2023 edition of the Championships.

The respective hosts were awarded the prestigious events following the final stage – the bid presentations to the BWF Council on Monday 16 November 2020.

The Japan Para Badminton Federation came out just ahead of Badminton Peru for the 2021 edition, while Badminton Association of Thailand in a joint bid with the Sport Association for the Disabled of Thailand were awarded the 2023 Championships just ahead of Badminton Canada.

BWF was fortunate to have four quality bids for the next two editions of the Championships.

It was clear that all bids would serve to benefit Para badminton athletes and further the development of Para badminton globally. However, the BWF Council determined that Japan and Thailand provided the best, most sustainable framework to deliver the highest standard of tournament possible, and ultimately, the best athlete experience.

BWF was very pleased to have had such interest in bidding for the next two editions of the Para Badminton World Championships.

We would very much like to sincerely thank the four bidding organisations for the effort in preparing their vision and plans for the Championships in 2021 and 2023.
