Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will take place at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo on 24 August 2021.
This will be a very different Games because of Covid-19. This page provides information on guidelines and rules related to your participation in the Paralympic Games. For qualification regulations, see Section 5.4.1 of the BWF Statutes (linked here) – see Section 5.4.3.1 on qualification.
Playbook for Athletes and Officials – COVID-19 Protocols
In February, Tokyo 2020 organisers, IOC and IPC published The Playbook – a guide to a safe and successful Games (linked here). Please look at the PLAYBOOK for ATHLETES AND OFFICIALS version 3 – June 2021.
Tokyo 2020 – will be a different Games experience compared to others Paralympics.

IPC Manufacturer Identification Guidelines
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is pleased to present the IPC Manufacturer Identification Guidelines for
the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. This guide contains the general rules concerning the manufacturer identification
and the specific details for the different categories (equipment, clothing, accessories and footwear) for the Tokyo
2020 Paralympic Games.
Sport Specific Regulations
The Tokyo 2020 Sport-Specific Regulations (SSR) have been developed between the IOC, the IPC and the respective International Federations to determine how any impacts of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case would be managed in competition formats and structures.
BADMINTON
In Badminton, athletes unable to start the competition due to COVID-19 reasons will not be disqualified and will be marked as DNS.
In case the athlete has started the competition and is no longer able to compete due to COVID-19 will be marked as Withdrawn (WDN). The opponent will receive a bye and the minimum result of the athlete is protected.
Athlete Sponsorship and Advertising
These Guidelines outline the key principles relating to the use of athletes in advertising that are applicable to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. It seeks to put athletes in a better position to work with their personal sponsors in a manner consistent with their rights and responsibilities as a Paralympic athlete.
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) recognises that many factors contribute to an athlete’s success, and that includes financial support from commercial organisations who provide funding and material support towards an athlete’s training and preparation.
Supplementary Regulations – Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 Demonstrations
This document sets out the regulations referred to in Article 2.2.2 of the Paralympic Games Principles (the ‘Supplementary Regulations’) and also amends the IPC Code of Ethics to the extent necessary to give effect to these Supplementary Regulations.
The purpose of these Supplementary Regulations is to provide further detail on how, when and where Participants may demonstrate, protest, and/or make political statements during the Paralympic Games.
Summary of Supplementary Regulations Governing Demonstrations – Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
The Supplementary Regulations are binding on all participants in the Games, including athletes and their training partners, competition partners, coaches and trainers, other team officials and Games officials, other athlete support personnel, and all other accredited persons.
They will apply throughout the Games period, starting on 14 August 2021 and ending at midnight of 5 September 2021 (the day of the closing ceremony).
